Room with a View

We went out and about today and after dithering and doddering decided to climb the Kildare Round Tower.

The Round Tower originates from the 6th century and is made of sandstone and granite.

It is the highest tower in Ireland that can be climbed.

"Oh dear" I thought "it looks very high"
and it is all climbed by ladders that are inside!
Would I be able for it.........
But wow -
it was worth the climb just to get that view!
Isn't it just beautiful?

Getting vertigo just looking at it! That's why I've not been up yet (scaredy cat, I know). Pretty though :)

What a wonderful view and I'll bet you were feeling really pleased with yourself. I doubt I would have been brave enough to try. Amazing feat of skill that it still remains safe to climb after such a long time! 15 centuries! The mind boggles. The oldest building in SA dates back less than 400 years to 1666.

Wow, that is a beautiful view! I don't think I would have been able to make it to the top. I'm a chicken when it comes to heights.
Have a great weekend,

Way to go! I'd be curious, how many ladders? How many stairs? But the view is astounding and definitely worth it when the top is reached! And I'm sure going down was equally as fun?

I can't imagine something built in the 6th century is stil standing. What a lot of history it's witnessed. There's nothing manmade over here that's anywhere near that old.

We have been in Kildare but not in the Round Tower. Does it feel claustrophobic inside? Amazing how this was built how many years ago? Have you been to Newgrange North of Dublin?

You are a perfect match for all I can't do...I can't grow flowers, so I will look at yours...I am afraid of heights so I will let you climb ladders and get the great pictures...oh and thought of something else..I am in the US and couldn't get to the towers if I were not afraid og heights!!
