Yesterday I had planned to do a major blitz on the household chores but just before I could even start, I heard a
bing bong on the doorbell.......
Breakfast dishes still in the sink...
toast crumbs adorning the counter...
basket of washing sitting on the kitchen floor...
everywhere decorated with a film of dust...
not a bed in the house made...
fire needing to be cleaned out...
bathroom towel needing to be changed...
2 dogs howling like wolves for food...
me looking like a bag lady........
Why can't they call when the house is smelling clean and fresh ♥
scented candles burning on the freshly polished table ♥
the fire warm and inviting and blazing with newly cut logs on top ♥
vases of pretty flowers giving out that wonderful "green" smell ♥
a big pot of freshly brewed coffee on the stove ♥
lots of lovely goodies to eat ♥
and me looking somewhat human instead of looking like a bedraggled crazy lady!!
Such is life!!!!!!
Happy Sunday to you all

Hi Fiona,
Well, some things you have no control over ;)
Happy Sunday to you too!
Hugs x
I can so relate to this! I do hope it was "good" company. Enjoy your Sunday.
Was it an enjoyable visit with your friends who were comfortable enough to ring your doorbell and stop by unannounced? Or did you say, the lady of the house isn't here right now . . . could you stop by later? SMILE
I like your comment in your 'About Me' about doing " . . . bits and bobs around the house and garden . . ." One more IRISH saying which delights me . . .
Oh I hear you Fiona, it happens to us all at some point.
I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you think!!
You should see my house - or maybe not lol.
Have a great week.
It would be nice if they called first - lol. sandie
I can relate with this, and you brought a smile to my face. It is so true. Perhaps it is a divine joke? ;)
i am guessing that you were the only one concerned about the state your house was in. guests only care about seeing YOU. :)
Hi Fiona, I relate to this post so well. I actually find it a little stressful when guests arrive unannounced. It is so silly though, they come to see you and don't care what you look like, so we need to relax and enjoy the moment!
Thankyou for all your lovely comments on my post. Yes we are all terribly excited around here. Although Lois now knows about Santa this year, and that is a little sad for me, but I will do my best to keep the magic alive! I won't decorate the house until the beginning of December, but there is nothing to stop me planning and schemeing!Have a lovely relaxing Sunday, love Linda x
That always happens here as well Fiona! I am sure you didn't look like a bag lady at all!! Enjoy the rest of Sunday and have a lovely week:)
~Anne
Such is life indeed, but I am sure you still had fun together. Enjoy your Sunday!
Hi Fiona. It always seems to happen like that, doesn't it?! I guess the most important thing to do is to make them feel really welcome and make a fuss of them, so that they won't even notice the mess! Hee Hee!! Hope you're having a relaxing weekend.
Dishes never end at our house. Two seconds after you're done with dishes, there's a cup and a snack plate back in. I have to do laundry throughout the week to keep up. So sad, measure my worth by how well I can ration the detergent to make it last. andrea@townandprairie
It's true that saying...such is life. Nobody calls here when I have polished, done the ironing and restored order. However, like you if I have the washing piles dotted around before loading the machine the bell rings.....
That happens to us all. My Mum used to quote a story-line she once read..."If you're coming to see ME, you're always welcome. If you're coming to see my house, please make an appointment!" Try to remember that next time you're 'caught out' :)
Happens to me ALL the time! I have a "rule" that my dear Auntie told me. When you get up- brush your teeth, comb your hair and "put on your face"...and make your bed. Then, no matter what happens you will feel good about yourself all day! She was pretty smart! xo Diana
Sorry, Fiona, I was smiling while reading this. But I know exactly what you're saying.
Isn't that the way it seems to always happen?
It sure does for me! :)
I love guests coming over, but I do admit to liking a little bit of a warning beforehand.
Have a good evening, Fiona!
It always happens to me too. Exactly the way you described. But when things are in tip top shape, nobody visits at all. Curious, isn't it? Hope you had a little fun with your company. Take care.
Opisujesz bardzo przyjemnie, samo życie. Pozdrawiam
Ha ha Fiona, that seems to be the only time people drop by!! Household duties can be just soul-less... but I just keep remembering the motto: "A clean house is the sign of a wasted life" :-)
I so relate to this!!!
i read your post and think : been there done that!
but the ones who likes us they just have to likes us
when we are messy too...
such is life ; )
have a beautiful week!
Id like to wish everyone whose blog that i visit a happy Thanksgiving to you and your family's, and thank you for being a reader to mine. Richard from Amish Stories.
Hi Fiona, It does seem like people stop by when the house is the messiest. But if they are your friends, they are coming to see you, not your house. So don't worry about the house, just enjoy their company.
Have a great week.
Barb
Lovely roses, Fiona! I hope everyone enjoyed the visit, anyway. :)
oh dear! However, if I had to wait until my house was in order I'm afaid I'd never have any guests at all!!! THe chaos of kids mess surrounds me almost permantly! ;)
x
ps...over a 100 followers, look at you go!! It was only a few months ago I remember you as a newbie blogger, great stuff! xx
That's so much fun to read! I know exactly what you are talking abougt! When the house is neat and tidy nobody rings the bell - when it is vice versa the door bell seems to ring all day long... I think friends come to see YOU and not what your house looks like. Thanks for your comment on my blog! Christa
Love your post! And I know the feeling!
Dearest Fiona,
Oh yes, it sure happens for us all and personally I DO have many experiences like that.
Haha, the way you describes it really intruding for me to read and thank you for the lovely smile♡♡♡
Roses are beautiful, my friend.
Blessing to you, xoxo Orchid*
It's like looking pretty, make up on, dressed nice, BUT the day I dare to run to the grocery store because I need ONE more thing to prepare dinner, no make up, dressed like I just picked up garbage, and I run into everyone I DON'T want to be seen by looking the way I do! hahahaa
So true, Fiona, but I no longer have those experiences, at least not as often. I pretty much refuse to open the door to someone who does not take the time to be polite and call ahead, unless of course, God tells me I must open that door and be nice regardless of my panic attack. :) I detest it when that happens.
Stopped by to wish you and your loved ones Thanksgiving blessings.
Much love to you, my dear.
Ohh! Murphy's Law at its best! Exasperating isn't it!
Anyhow, I hope you had a great time! :)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Fiona, I know "exactly" what you are talking about!!! Or, every room in my house can be clean and my guest wander into the kitchen (which of course looks like a tornado has come through)to stand around and chat. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving day and a year of many blessings. Mickie :)
That always happens to me too and I ask the same questions. New to your blog and how lovely it is I'm now following you, if you find a spare minute come and visit me and follow back if you like, so nice to find new friends. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Always Wendy
Hi, Fiona
I had a knock on my door just a little while ago. Fortunately, it wasn't someone I knew to invite inside. However, the knock has motivated to get busy cleaning up this afternoon. How did I make a mess in just the few days I've been home?
-Karen
Such a common occurrence I guess. I thought it was only me. I love your post. It makes me feel better about it all. I love how real you are. Your posts always make me happy!
I hope they were good company at least :O) Love the roses
I know that house...I've lived there. I know that bag lady, I've been her:)
Ba ha ha your me, I hate house work but I love a beautiful home....now I just need to learn hoe to achieve the latter without the first. Your blogs great and I love all the lovely pics of Irish houses. I'm from Waterford living in Melbourne and it's lovely to hear you chat. I can hear your accent in the text. Another follower for you.
