I love this teaset which was given to us by my husband's aunt as a wedding present when we married 25 years ago.
It is so pretty and delicate.
It is so pretty and delicate.
It is never used and buried in a cabinet in the dining room along with the good Waterford crystal wineglasses and other good china & bits and bobs.
My husband asked me why I don't use any of that stuff instead of it all gathering dust and you know I couldn't answer him.............
Life is for living and having lovely things unused seems such a shame.
I have taken the teaset down but think it will only be used my myself, my mum and my daughter because the 3 big men in this house might look a little strange sipping tea from flowery cups!!!
The wine glasses will stay where they are for the moment as I know the boys would use them for drinking cola and they wouldn't last 2 minutes!!
Tomorrow I might take out some more -
baby steps!!!
Have you got things put away that you don't use
or is it only me?

Hi Fiona...why I used to do that and now I don't. I've decided that the special times are any moment my family and friends are with me. If a plate cracks or a glass chips or it all gets broken they are only things. What is replaceable in life is NOT what is special..it's the moments and memories we create with our loved ones. Enjoy all your beautiful bits and bobs. Life is short...use the crystal!
By the way...I am in love with your teaset!
Hugs~
Hi Fiona, I have some lovely things that I don't use, I'm sure they were bought to be used. What makes us want to keep something to save for best? I am trying to change my mindset and utilise these lovely dishes, glasses, lots of things - it makes your feel .... good. You know Sush says it better than me in her reply. Thanks Sush! lol.
PS. I meant to also say your china dishes are lovely and your flowers set it off nicely in the picture.
that is lovely! even if you use it for flower displays only - use it! :)
Hi Fiona. That's a very pretty teaset, and all those vintage cups and saucers (not forgetting cake stands) are now very much back in fashion again. I think we're all guilty of keeping things in cupboards, which is such a shame really, especially when they are as pretty as your tea set. I usually take mine out when friends come round, but don't use them on a daily basis.
Hello Fiona, lovely tea set! What a nice wedding gift from your aunt. The cup has such a cheery pattern.
I used my very best every day. I love treating each day as a special day. Seeing and using beautiful china is one of my favorite things : )
Hugs,
Terri
p.s. your followers box is missing, but I was able to follow by going up to the top tool bar and clicking "follow" on the left.
You have found a beautiful way to use your pretty little tea cup!
Hi Fiona,
Lovely tea cup. Love daisies! I did have things that I put away, but have learned, as I get older, that they are here, they belong to me and I should be enjoying them. I've gotten much better about using the *good* stuff. If something breaks, then it breaks. (Less to store!!!!) Every day on beautiful Mother Earth is special ... so celebrate! Happy Tea Day!
What a beautiful tea set! Fiona I know what you mean about lovely little things never being used. I have had many and in the moves ove r the years they have been packed away some know broken sadly and never used. So I like you want to start using my pretty's. But again that means digging through the boxes to see what has survived. Enjoy your priceless beauties.
Thank you for sharing with us.
Blessings
I think we are all guilty of that one and it isn't till you realise that you can't take it with you and your children may not want it then either that you begin to enjoy using your "good" stuff.
It's a very pretty teaset. I no longer keep anything for 'best' but use my pretty things all the time. And if things get broken ... well I just enjoy myself shopping for more pretty things to replace them!
que voce tenha uma terça-feira florida e perfumada!
Beautiful tea set! I love it and I think you are correct to use and enjoy them!
A beautiful set! We do treasure things from family, but it's fun to use them as well. Handling memories and honoring people. Besides...a teacup was made for...tea!
This is my first visit...nice to meet you!

Hello Fiona,
I have been guilty as charged in the past but now am using my pretty things. You see, I do have an excuse. I brought up three boys and they are all men's men and you would not get a pretty teacup anywhere near them; Hubby neither! The husband however understands my need for such things and he now indulges me, for which I am very grateful! As you could see by my post that he goes to the tea rooms with me and even donns a hat when asked. I think I'll keep him!
Your teacup is just lovely and I'm glad you are taking the necessary baby-steps. Thank you for sharing and joining me for Tea Time. Wishing you a delightful day.
Blessings,
Sandi
Don't worry - I too have things which I don't use because they are 'too good' for everyday use! I also have fabric which I can't bring myself to use because it is so lovely (do you think I need help!!??)
Such wonderful treasures and so nice that you are using them and enjoying them. Beautiful. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
The design is very pretty and I can understand what you mean, I do the same with some nice china!
I like your pretty tea set. I used to keep things stored away for special occasions but use them at will now.
Enjoy using your good china and crystal too.
Beautiful tea set! It's going to be so much fun to use it :) Happy times
Lovely teaset Fiona. I do use my pretty things regularly,...why not? My Mum was a great believer in 'setting the table'. Although I don't for every single meal, I do like to use a cloth, prety china and proper fabric napkins on a regular basis. I remember visiting the home of an Antique Dealer. In his kitchen he had the most beautiful dinner set. His wife said that they used it at Christmas, but that every so often a plate would just crack for no reason. So, I thought to myself, you may as well use it and enjoy it. Many thanks for your visit and kind words Fiona, I had a great party and was glad that I went to the trouble, for my family and friends. Have a great weeek, love Linda x
I don't want to have anything I'm not willing to use, so I always try to keep that in mind. Keep taking those baby steps!
A lovely teaset...I use my pretties all the time and often change vignettes and place something different on display, creating fun within rooms...even down to the bathroom. I love sharing those precious things with whoever visits...and of course sharing them with you and other friends in blogland. Take those tiny steps... each object needs a memory, and using those waterford crystal glasses could start a few wonderful stories at your next dinner party.A touch of loveliness #20yvette
Your tea set is lovely. My mother-in-law collected teacups. And she decided to give me her collection, years ago. When putting them on display, I accidently knocked over the box they were in and broke most of them, before my husband and I could enjoy them. I was devastated. I vowed I would never use the ones that survived. And I haven't. They've been under lock and key for 30 years. It's a shame isn't it? I won't use my good china either.
Enjoy your lovely dishes. Even if one should break, you'd have the memories of sharing them with your mum and daughter.

You're right. The lovely stuff is made to be used. I used to have a hard time cutting my fancy scrapbooking paper because its so pretty, but once I learned to say "it's only paper" I got over it. Take pictures of your lovely treasures so you'll still be able to look at them if they happen to get broken in use.
Pretty blog...love the daisies! Your teacup and flowers look very lovely, and I agree that lovely things should be used. I too have things tucked away in cupboards and cabinets that haven't seen the light of day for quite some time. Maybe it's time I take them out or pass them on.
loads of them! sometimes i give things to charity shops but usually i just put them in boxes in the cellar... i like it here! ll be visiting : )
They are so pretty!
